About Us

Located in Board of Education District 6 and KCS Region 2, Mill Creek Elementary School is the newest school in the district.

Opened in 2023, the school is situated on 29 acres of land on Coward Mill Road in Northwest Knox County. The 124,000-square-foot facility is designed to accommodate approximately 1,200 students, helping to alleviate overcrowding at Hardin Valley Elementary, Karns Elementary, and Ball Camp Elementary.

Mill Creek Elementary is dedicated to fostering a supportive, engaging, and enriching environment where students are prepared for success both academically and personally.

Principal

Dr. Sunny Scheafnocker

Dr. Scheafnocker is a seasoned educator and school leader with nearly two decades of experience in various educational roles. She began her career in education in 2002 as a teacher at Fountain City Elementary, where she taught until 2008. She began her career in administration, first as Assistant Principal at Hardin Valley Elementary from 2008 to 2013, and later as Assistant Principal at Amherst Elementary from 2013 to 2015. She served as Principal at Hardin Valley Elementary from 2015 to 2022, where she led with a focus on academic excellence and community engagement. Since 2022, she has served as Principal at Mill Creek Elementary, continuing to foster a supportive learning environment and drive educational success.

Dr. Scheafnocker holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Education, both from the University of Tennessee; an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision and a doctorate in Executive Leadership, both from Lincoln Memorial University.

Assistant Principal

Kristi Whited

Kristi Whited is an experienced educator and leader with a strong background in both teaching and administration. She began her career in education as a teacher at Hardin Valley Elementary, where she taught from 2004 to 2013. In 2013, she transitioned into an administrative role as Assistant Principal at Hardin Valley Elementary, a position she held until 2023.

Before her time at Hardin Valley Elementary, Kristi worked as a Child Care Evaluator at the University of Tennessee from 2001 to 2004. She also has a rich background in early childhood education, having worked with Knoxville-Knox County Head Start from 1990 to 2001.
